Distinguish yourself with a LEED Green Associate credential!


Passing the Green Associate exam will allow you to market your knowledge of the preeminent standards in the green building industry, and is the first step in becoming a LEED Professional.  The LEED Green Associate credential is designed for professionals who want to demonstrate green building expertise in non-technical fields of practice. This credential attests to basic knowledge of green design, construction, and operations.  LEED AP exams are comprised of two parts: Green Associate & the Specialty. Candidates must pass both portions of the exam in order to receive the LEED AP credential.


The USGBC Central Texas – Balcones Chapter’s 6-week LEED Green Associate Study Group is designed to prepare participants for the LEED Green Associate exam. Your skilled instructor will provide an introduction to LEED, discuss methods of sustainable project delivery and green building principals, and offer test taking tips.

2) USGBC LEED Green Associate Study Guide, USGBC Both of which may be purchased on the USGBC Publications page of the USGBC website. The price is reduced if purchased as a set ($130 for employees of national USGBC member companies; $155 for non-members). Please plan for shipping time.

Course textbooks are available from the Chapter at a bulk discount price of $100 per set; these can be purchased online at the time of registration and will be handed out  the first day of class.

LEED Green Associate Candidate Handbook (free download) and references outlined on page 12 of the handbook.


PRE-REQUISITES Students must read and understand the steps needed to enroll for and take the exam, including meeting exam eligibility requirements. The instructors will only address this as a broad overview. Students will receive a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the course which may be submitted to meet eligibility requirements for the LEED Green Associate exam.



Kimberly Drennan, AIA LEED AP B+C, has been a registered architect in Texas the since 2008 and a LEED® AP since 2004. Kim serves as a Green Building Project Manager and the Sustainability Programs Director for Sustainable Perspectives Group. Prior to joining SPG, Kimberly had 5 years of experience at the national award winning firm, Lake|Flato Architects, serving as an intern architect, project architect and student intern coordinator. Her project experience includes multifamily housing, non-profit organizations, institutions, and residential clients.

Passionate about education, Kimberly is project manager for the Kids Initiating Design Solutions (KIDS) program, a collaboration between the Architecture Foundation of San Antonio and the Southwest School of Art, that teaches architectural and environmental design to elementary school children. Interested in all ages, Kimberly has been an adjunct professor at Trinity University teaching design studios and architectural history since 2007.

Jennifer Woods, LEED AP BD+C, moved to San Antonio in 2010 and joined Sustainable Perspectives Group. Prior to joining SPG, Jennifer owned and operated a construction consulting company that specialized in construction cost estimating, specification writing and project management on a national basis.

This course does not guarantee students will pass the LEED Green Associate exam.  Additional time outside of class will be required for reading the required textbooks and for further study.  Registering and taking the LEED Green Associate exam, and any associated costs, are not included in this course.
